This class is designed to teach you Texas Gun Laws, Gun Safety and Storage, provide basic range training, prepare you for the written portion of the exam and range qualification. This class will be taught by a law enforcement officer and Certified Texas Handgun Instructor. Although this class is organized for Black communities, it is available to everyone.

Class start time has been updated to 8:00 AM due to ranges need. Seating is limited to 25 participants per session. Range is approximately 25 mins from Downtown Dallas. Please arrive on time for a prompt 8am start. 

This course satisfies the requirements needed to obtain a Certificate of Completion (LTC-100) for a Texas License to Carry (LTC). Taught by a law enforcement officer and Certified Texas Handgun Instructor, this class gives you the knowledge and hands-on training to carry with confidence.

Class Details

• Start Time: 8:00 AM
• Duration: Approximately 6 hours
• Locations: Dallas Area
• Classroom: Shared after registration, and before event
• Range: Outdoors in Dallas Area

Classroom Portion (~4 Hours)

We will cover everything you need to know for the written portion of your LTC:

• Texas laws relating to carrying a firearm
• Safe firearm storage
• Lethal force - when and how it applies, from a Law Enforcement perspective
• Situational awareness

Handgun Qualification (~2 Hours)

Hands-on range instruction covering the fundamentals:

• Range qualification preparation
• Grip
• Stance
• Sight alignment
• Loading a magazine

Additional Information

• Classroom Fee
• Range Fee + Ammo (additional Ammo can be purchased)
•  Notarization of affidavits, if needed. This is not required if you apply online for your LTC through the DPS website.
• Certificate of Completion (Form-104)
• Large brown envelope for mailing forms to DPS

Note: Effective March 1, 2011, Texas DPS requires all Texas Concealed Handgun License applicants to have their fingerprints taken by L1. Please bring the following to class:

• Texas State ID or Texas driver’s license
• Pen and paper for notes
• Your handgun and appropriate ammunition, unless you are renting from the
  instructor
• You must qualify with a handgun.
• Bring your unloaded handgun and unloaded magazine in a bag or case.
• If possible, leave your handgun in your vehicle until the instructor tells you to bring it to the range.
• If you cannot leave your handgun in your vehicle, bring your unloaded handgun, unloaded magazine, and ammunition in a bag or case to the classroom. The instructor will store them in the secure classroom gun cabinet and return them when it is time to qualify.
• Only standard handgun calibers may be used on the range.
• Bring 50 rounds for the qualification exercise.
• Bring extra ammunition for practice.

Note:

• Whether you qualify with a revolver or a semiautomatic handgun, you may carry either type once you receive your Concealed Handgun License from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
• All sales are finals.
